Orbital House is the showpiece headquarters building of Directline Structures. Designed and built by the Company it allowed the possibility to experiment with sustainable features. When relocation to Ashford was decided it offered the perfect opportunity to totally integrate the design and construction for sustainability and efficiency.
One major benefit was that the efficient design used 20% less material, plus a large proportion of the waste was used as building material. A rainwater harvester was installed that utilises 100% of water from the roof and stores it for flushing the toilets, resulting in very low water bills, whilst an air source heating extracts heat from the air, keeping the building at a comfortable temperature and creating a superb working environment.
